It wasn’t until I started learning about meditation that I encountered discussions about chakras.
Chakras are points on the body along the spine that represent the local energy of that area and the current ability of the spirit, as it is affected by how open or closed the chakras are.
Western influence has added colours and crystals to represent chakras but these are embellishments and are not needed.
The 7 main chakras from top to bottom are:
Crown – top of your head – consciousness and spiritual awareness
Third Eye – forehead – balancing between higher and lower selves
Throat – communication and expression
Heart – Emotions and immune system
Navel – Digestion
Sacral – intestinal area – reproduction and creativity
Root – base of the spine (perineum) – Sexuality and security
To find out how each chakra affects your behaviour, check out the information on the Eclectic Energies website: Chakras Introduction
They’ve also got an interesting Chakra Test, though as there are only 56 questions it’s best to see this as a basic guide only. A more thorough examination of your chakras would have thousands of questions and most people don’t have that kind of time.
Interestingly there are also exercises you can do to ‘open’ your chakras if someone has decided they’re not open enough. There are several hand and meditation positions as well as sounds you can make and exercises you can do to open your chakras.
This site lists a number of yoga positions as well as other exercises Wing Makers
Eclectic Energies also has a page: Open Chakras which include mudras hand positions.
Hmm. Looks like I have some openings to attend to.
